Yeah, if Sky and Solstice prices would keep dropping, that'd be great. I didn't realize how cheap N/A versions had gotten.
Meanwhile Redlines/GXPs are still commanding over $10k with good reason. 260 horsepower in a car this light is nothing to scoff at. Though the 175 the N/A version makes isn't terrible by any means.

I actually wonder how hard it would be to turbo the N/A motor.

No, no it is terrible. If you want one, hold out for a Redline or GXP or nothing. Seriously.

HEY YOU SHUT THE HELL UP ABOUT THEM! If people realize that the N/As are as close GM will ever get to a Miata, and the boosted ones are as close as anyone will get to a more powerful BRZ without mods, the prices are going on a trip to the moon! It'll be the E30 M3 all over again!

I by all means know the Crossfire isn't fast, but on a test drive the N/A Sky just felt slow to me. I'd hold out longer (save up more) and get a turbo if looking at these cars imo.

I'd imagine a supercharger would be easier.

From everything I've heard/read, the NA was awful. The turbo was the only thing that made it fun.

i dislike superchargers because they take HP to run. turbos just used waster power (yea yea, lag and what not)

I mean, anything has to be faster than my Safari. That's the thing, the N/A does 60 in 7.2 seconds, the turbo in 5.2. I really don't think I need a car that does 60 that fast.

Literally the worst picture of a Redline... IN THE WORLD.

It's the base model. My dad has one, so I always steal it when I'm home visiting. Suspension isn't as good, it's lower on power. And the Redline/GXP is just that much better. It's worth it to wait longer and get the better car.

7.2 actually isn't as bad as I thought. I was just going by but dyno though.

But could it possibly be worse than a 160 horsepower, top heavy, leaf sprung, automatic GMC van? Because that's what I'd be coming from.

From mid 13s to low 7s in a 60 run would probably be a shock to my system as it is. Let alone the handling and sportiness of it.

Ohgawd 13s?!?!

But actually thinking about it for more than a second now. I bet it felt slow to me because my old car and the Crossfire both do 60 in 6.5. So it was actually slower than I'm used to. But everything is relative and I certainly wouldn't hate on you for getting a NA car.

Yup, 13.4 or something like that. It's excruciating yet somehow not dangerous.
I wouldn't have expected the Crossfire to scoot that fast, but dayum.
I figure that the N/A wouldn't be bad since it'd be the first real "sporty" car I've ever driven and would be my first stick. Of course this is all hypothetical unless prices fall some more, which being a Saturn I'm sure they will, or my budget moves slightly up.

Honestly I'd bet the NAs keep dropping for at least a few more years. They're from a dead brand and the people want a rare car from a dead brand will pick up the more rare turbos.
I think its a good car to aim for!

My dad wants to swap a 2.0T ecotec from one of these into our Miata after we get over the 1.8 that's in it. He misses the supercharged version that he had in his Ion RedLine

personally, I'd have to go turbo here....
Then again, the GLI's got 200hp to start with, and does 0-60 in 5.7 seconds 9/10 times

Ignore the haters. The N/A cars are plenty fun, especially with you coming from a Safari. Rwd, manual, 2-seater is a great combo.
I came really close to pulling the trigger on a Sky about a year ago, but there are some tradeoffs I couldn't ignore. Like NO storage... none. The trunk is all full of roof and there are little to no cubbies or storage places in the cabin. Also I'm 6'3" and my height was a bit of an issue for visibility out of the low roofline with the top up.
Fun car though. Manual is a must for the funz. ;p
For the price, I started looking at used Vettes a couple of generations old. YOLO!
